Fountain Pen Servicing
Pen Servicing entails stripping, cleaning and tuning the Nib of a fountain pen to restore it back to its original functionality.
Cleaning involves using an ultrasonic bath and flushing with alcohol if necessary.
It is often possible to repolish and enhance the body of pens that have become dull and scratched (particularly Mont Blanc black plastic types) so they look as glossy and shiny like when new (or even better in some cases).
Ben can often restore these Nibs to new condition or even better than new through re-bending, aligning, smoothing and shaping them by hand until they work perfectly.
Cracked Gold Nibs
If you have a crack in your Gold nib but no parts are missing, it is possible to laser weld the crack and repair the nib in most cases.
What if your fountain pen cannot be fixed?
If it not possible to repair your pen, it will be returned to you for a £20 fee for receipt, inspection and investigation of a repair, and return. Alternatively it can be recycled free of charge if you prefer.
If you opt for recyling the pens are kept them for parts in the hope you may help someone else with a similar pen to enjoy a restoration on their item if they need a broken part replacing.
How long does it take and how do you pay?
Once the repair is successful I’ll get in touch with you with the cost.
The turnaround time is usually around a week for a straightforward service or repair, or a few weeks if parts need to be ordered.
payment is by bank transfer and then the pen is shipped back to you after payment. Various shipping options are available depending on the value of the pen.
What if you are not sure Ben will be able to fix your fountain pen?
If your fountain pen is broken (for example the nib snapped), if possible email ben a couple of pictures of the damage which may mean he can tell if you if a repair is possible or not prior to your shipping it to him.
When you do ship a pen, include your name, email, phone number, address on a piece of paper – tracked 48 is the recommended shipping method or guaranteed signed for next day.
If you have any questions or queries prior to shipping to Ben please feel free to get in touch.
